The tabernacle Part 2

Sun, 17th Nov 2013
Terry Jones
Exodus 35 v4 -36 v7
Summary:

Anyone who looks at Jesus is free! The tabernacle is a visual aid to intimacy with God and brings us into a friendship and relationship with God. The panorama of the tabernacle gives us the whole scene, the detail gives us the parts of the tabernacle. Every priest and part of the tabernacle speaks of Gods mercy. God was at the centre of the tabernacle which could be seen by all the tribes. All of the tribes would be able to see white linen reminding them that God is holy and they were sinful. Parts of the tabernacle:-
1) The altar. This is where animals blood was shed and sprinkled as a sacrifice. Jesus blood has to be applied to our hearts and our minds to become real.
2) The Laver. The hands and feet of the priests must be washed. In the world our eyes, minds and thoughts can be assaulted and want to do the wrong thing. Everyday we need to be washed
3) The lampstand. The priests would pour oil into the lampstand and trim the wicks as the light must always shine. Everyday we need our lives pruned to bring more light to the world.
4) Table of showbread. Only the priests could eat and drink the elements speaking of intimacy with God, of communion and encounter.
5) The veil. Separating the Holy place from the Holy of Holies. Prayer is the nearest we can come to Gods glory and holiness. We no longer need priests to stand for us because of Jesus
6) The ark of the covenant. Contains the pot of manna, Aarons bud and the two tablets with the 10 commandments. A sign that God can do more than we can ask or think. The cherubs look down at the atonement lid the mercy seat. This reminded the priests that they had to keep coming every day. The lid could only cover their guilt and shame not remove it. Jesus took all our sin and shame and removed it. He came to remove our sins not to cover them.
