The tabernacle part 3

Sun, 8th Dec 2013
Terry Jones
Exodus chapter 27 v9-19
Summary:

From shadow to substance, The tabernacles fine details, The courtyard and the entrance gate.
The panorama of the temple was familiar to everyone and was surrounded by the tribes. The tabernacle was in the centre of everything to remind the people to keep God at the centre. God had given the people strict instructions to build the temple as he commanded without deviating. This was because everyone knew what they had to do when moving the tabernacle and knew what their place was. If we fulfil each of our functions our church will grow.
Gods instructions began with building the holy altar. Only when we realise his purity can we begin to see how wretched we are before him. God is holy and pure. Our sin is removed from us now but in the old testament sin was only covered.
Steps of the journey to the entrance:-
Step 1. Conviction. Those that were convicted were the ones that came to the entrance and to the priests, offer a sacrifice and be forgiven. In Acts 2 v37-38 Peter told the people to repent, be baptized and receive the Holy Spirit when they felt convicted.
Step 2. Only one way in. The white curtain, God is perfect and we are imperfect. God wants us to be cleansed and redeemed. Thw white colour represents purity, the blue, divine, the scarlet, humanity and purple represents our mediator (blue and scarlet combined) This curtain is perfect as a type of Jesus. Jesus is the entrance, the gate, the doorway John 14v6, John 10v9.
Step 3. Its a wide gate. All the Israelites came to the tabernacle by different routes and so everybody comes to Jesus in a different way. No one comes to the father except through Jesus. Once the people arrived at the gate they were welcomed to be forgiven and go away rejoicing. Jesus says that no one who comes to me will be turned away. If we have a burden we know we can come to him as it is the will of God that no one should perish. It is a wide gate but not everyone will come to the gate as the world loves darkness.
Step 4. It is an accessible gate. Sometimes churches are guilty of bolting the doors and churches can become a barrier. They can want a certain type of person. No one is too sinful or dismissed as being unworthy to Jesus. Everybody can know God.
Step 5. It is an attractive gate. Sometimes we can turn people away and be unattractive. Are we attractive to others like the gate. It is a gateway to forgiveness. Hebrews 10 v 11-14, God accepts us because of Jesus. Can salvation be anymore attractive than that?
One day the gate will be closed forever. Hearing his voice brings us under conviction. If we hear his voice don't harden your hearts. The gate is the first step to Jesus. Have we asked God to forgive us. Many steps will follow but we begin at the entrance gate.
