What has the tabernacle got to do with us? The Word of God is living, its exciting, its challenging its revealing. The Israelites come out of Egypt to the Red Sea to The Promised Land. The sea parted and God gave them some positive instructions. God told them to build a tabernacle where he could dwell amongst the people. The people all had a part to play in setting up and moving the Tabernacle around. The Lord told the people to build it exactly as he commanded. We shouldn't interfere with our Makers instructions. If he sets a pattern we must follow it. The Tabernacle helps us to understand how to approach God and to have fellowship with him. God reveals his pattern to us in minute detail and we can get to know this pattern if we prepare ourselves.
1) The personal challenge v 1-2. We can look at the old testament as being irrelevant. God is looking for people with a loving heart. If our hearts are for God he will make his dwelling place with us. One of the commandments, Love the Lord your God with all your heart. God is looking for people who surrender their hearts to him. We cant fulfil all of the commandments but our hearts can be for him. How is our heart today is it for the church and our town?
2) Different gifts. What do all the different parts and gifts of the temple mean? Every single one of the gifts and parts will be vital and important. God is saying we are unique in his church. Don't ever think that what we bring to church is insignificant. Gods holy place is open for us.
3) Gods promise v 8-9. God was in the midst of his people revealing his desire to communicate with his people. The temple was for God so that he might dwell among them. We can encounter God in his holy place in church on Sunday morning. Sometimes we can go through the motions but how great when we can feel his glory... almost tangible
